PMLN

The Pakistan Muslim League (PML) was a political party in Pakistan founded in 1949 by the All India Muslim League, the party that had successfully led the campaign for the creation of Pakistan in 1947. The PML was the dominant political party in Pakistan for much of its history, and has held a majority in the National Assembly, the lower house of Pakistan's parliament, for much of the time since independence. The first general election in Pakistan took place in 1970, following the end of military rule by President Ayub Khan. The PML, under the leadership of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, won a narrow majority in the National Assembly and Bhutto became the country's first democratically elected prime minister. The second general election in Pakistan took place in 1977, after Bhutto was overthrown in a military coup led by General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. The PML, now led by Nawaz Sharif, emerged as the largest party in the National Assembly, but fell short of a majority. Sharif was able to form a coalition government with the help of smaller parties, and he became prime minister.

The third general election in Pakistan took place in 1988, after Zia-ul-Haq's death in a plane crash. The PML, now led by Benazir Bhutto, the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, emerged as the largest party in the National Assembly and Bhutto became the country's first female prime minister. Over the years, the PML has undergone several splits and reorganizations. In 1993, a faction of the party led by Nawaz Sharif broke away to form the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The PML-N went on to win the next two general elections, in 1997 and 2013, with Sharif becoming prime minister on both occasions. The PML has faced significant challenges in recent years, including allegations of corruption and mismanagement. In 2018, the party was defeated in the general election by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan. The PTI won a narrow majority in the National Assembly and Khan became prime minister. Despite these challenges, the PML remains a major political force in Pakistan and has played a significant role in the country's political history. It has produced several influential leaders, including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who served as prime minister and later as president, and Benazir Bhutto, who was the first woman to lead a Muslim-majority country. The party has also been a strong advocate for democracy and the rule of law, and has played a key role in the promotion of civil liberties and human rights in Pakistan.

Some notable members of the PML-N include:

Nawaz Sharif: Founder and former leader of the PML-N

Shahbaz Sharif: President of the PML-N and former Chief Minister of Punjab

Maryam Nawaz: Daughter of Nawaz Sharif and a prominent member of the party

Ahsan Iqbal: Former federal minister and a central leader of the party

Khawaja Muhammad Asif: Former foreign minister and a senior leader of the party

These are just a few examples, and there are many other members of the PML-N at the local, provincial, and national levels.
