The Splitting of East Pakistan from West Pakistan in 1971

After getting independence from British Pakistan had two parts one part was East Pakistan now Bangladesh and west Pakistan, which is the current Pakistan in which we are living. As we know that Pakistan had two parts which are separated by about 1000 miles.

Reasons for separations of East Pakistan:

The first reason was that East Pakistan was very far from west Pakistan and was surrounded by India. 2nd reason was that the people of East Pakistan had different cultures and languages but had similar religions. The third reason, West-Pakistani leaders have humiliated East-Pakistani in every aspect whether that is resources or facilities, they discriminated East-Pakistani every time, and one of them is the 1970 “Bhola Cyclone” which caused the death of 500,000 people. Because of that infrastructure, transport, and other services were totally damaged and the central government of Pakistan had blamed for the slow response and misuse of funds. The fourth and most important reason was the “War of Power” between “Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto” and “Sheikh Mujibur Rahman”.

Political instability in East Pakistan and the response of people:

Awami League win a remarkable victory in December 1970s and get a majority of 160 in the national assembly, on the other hand, PPP won only 81 seats in the national assembly but was the winning party in Punjab and Sindh. By this majority, Sheikh Mujeeb was the next prime minister but that did not happen because don’t want to share power with Mujeeb. General Yahya Khan tried to share power between Bhutto and Mujeeb and they didn’t succeed. East-Pakistan civil insurgency started against Pak Army. Mukti Bahini and other guerrilla groups were incentivized and trained by the Indian Army against Pak Army. Operation searchlight was started on 25 March 1971 against Bengali nationalists and arrested Sheikh Mujeeb.

1971 war:

The environment was very favourable to foreign forces to intervene in the name of violation of human rights by the Pak Army in East Pakistan. The war lasted just for just 13 days 93,000 Pakistani were taken “Prisoners of the War” but this figure is very suspicious some reports say that this figure is around about 34000 soldiers were taken Prisoners of War. In this war Pakistan suffered a lot of damage because the Indian military had cut up the logistic line and blockaded seas and Airways; that is the backbone of any Army in any war. There was no supply chain of ammunition, military soldiers and food, everything was under controlled of the unified forces of Mukti Bhini and the Indian military. The reason for the loose of war was that the Pakistani Army was surrounded from all sides by the Indian military and guerrilla forces and the second reason Pak Army were less in numbers compared 200,000 Indian Army. Citizens and intellectuals were the main targets of this mass genocide by Mukti Bhini and the Indian Military.

Conclusion:

We came to know about two points first when you behave your most friendly and dearest friends discriminately and disliked they will turn down you and will behave you in the same manner as you have towards them. Another thing is foreigners will take advantage of the situation. Its mean that third party will properly utilize your hostility for its own interests.  That’s all were happened in East-Pakistan. The result was separation of East-Pakistan from West-Pakistan.
